APA Tutorial

Introduction

Your professor has asked that you use the APA citation style to cite your sources. You may not have used this style before, but it is one of the most-commonly used styles used by researchers, scholars, and students to place their research and ideas into a publication format. This tutorial will teach you where you may find resources for APA citation style, why and when to cite, and how to cite.

The print resource that contains this information is The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.) 2001. It covers not only all you need to know about citing in the text and on a references page, but also guidelines for organizing and presenting your research and thoughts. There are Web sites that provide this information, too. One of these is at http://www.apastyle.org, and links to other similar Web sites can be found on the library’s Web page [create a link here to the library’s page: Citing Print and Online Materials.]
