APA Tutorial
Why you should cite?
Several features are common to the APA citation style. These provide a rationale for why you should cite:
Writers are able to accurately and consistently show the sources they used in a document, and to point readers to where the sources were found.
- Writers who use a citation style appropriately learn how to avoid plagiarizing the sources they used.
- Writers who use a citation style appropriately respect the original author’s intellectual contribution as well as his or her right to the intellectual content of their research or thought.
- Using a citation style demonstrates your integrity.
In scientific and academic communities, an author is judged not only for the contribution the published material may make within the specific discipline, but also for its truthfulness. Readers will almost certainly ask whether the citations used are relevant to the argument, whether they allow the reader to locate them, and whether the author provides credit where it is due.
