African Art
Come visit the African Art collection at the Olin Library. This is the Western African Art collection of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stoneman.
The library has several pieces including two masks from the Karumba (or “Nioniosi” as they call themselves). These masks are used to represent the souls of the deceased at funeral ceremonies.
As you come in the front doors and turn right you will find a Malinke Stauette and the Senufo Doors. In the back are two Karumba Masks; on the left side of the library is the Baga Mask. Downstairs you will find the Senufo Statue. There are several other pieces in the private sections of the library. If you would like to see those … just ask. We are always pleased to show these pieces.
