1st Jul, 2009 | No Comment | Posted in News

As of July 1, we will lose access to the following EBSCO databases that you may have gotten used to using.

  • Alt-HealthWatch
  • EBSCO Animals
  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia
  • Health Source: Academic/Nursing Edition
  • Health Source: Consumer Edition
  • MasterFILE Premier
  • MAS Ultra: School Edition
  • Military & Government Collection
  • Newspaper Source
  • Primary Search
  • Regional Business News

We have negotiated through MOBIUS to retain access to three important EBSCO databases next year that we would otherwise have lost access to.These are Academic Search Premier, Academic Search Elite, and Business Source Premier.

As of July 1, we will be able to access the following databases through Gale.

  • Business & Company Resource Center
  • Small Business Resource Center
  • Academic OneFile
  • General OneFile
  • Health & Wellness Resource Center with Alternative Health
  • Health Reference Center Academic
  • Student Edition (InfoTrac)
  • Junior Edition (InfoTrac)
  • Kids InfoBits
  • Custom Newspapers (InfoTrac)
  • Informe (Spanish periodical database)

As you can see, there are many parallels. The two business databases from Gale roughly correspond to Business Source Premier.Academic OneFile is Academic Search Premier.General OneFile corresponds roughly to MasterFile Premier. The Health and Wellness Resource Center with Alternative Health corresponds to Health Source: Consumer Edition and Alt-HealthWatch.Health Reference Center Academic would correspond to Health Source: Academic/Nursing Edition.Student Edition and Junior Edition correspond to Mas Ultra and Primary Search.InfoBits is essentially for kindergartners.Custom Newspapers would be Newspaper Source. In addition, there will be a database of Spanish-language publications in full text called Informe.

The library faculty will be modifying the LibGuides for each discipline to incorporate the new databases into the research guidance they provide. If you have been creating direct links to databases from WebCT pages, you will continue having Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier, but may have to make some other changes.
