Mission

The F.W.Olin Library is a repository for, and a gateway to, the information essential to the pursuit of knowledge by the Drury community.

It provides timely access to the information resources that support the academic and administrative needs of the university.

The library seeks to create an infrastructure for effective information delivery, to fully utilize available technologies, andto teach skills that enhance academic success and lifelong learning.

Through its collections, informationaccess services, and an environment conduciveto learning, the library enriches the lifeof the Drury community and advances theuniversity’s educational mission.

Goals

1. To select materials and develop collectionsappropriate to the university’s educational goals.

2. To organize, store, circulate and preserveinformation in all formats that support the university’s educationalgoals.

3. To provide effective circulation andreference services that assist users in satisfying their informationneeds.

4. To provide bibliographic tools, both in print and electronic format, that give Drury users access to information stored locally or in repositories and databases throughout the world.

5. To replace print resources with electronicones, where practicable, in order to provide distributed accessfor Drury users.

6. To provide off-site Drury faculty andstudents with the same level of library access and serviceprovided to on-campus faculty and students.

7. To provide non-credit instruction inthe use of print and electronic information resources.

8. To provide credit instruction that dealsboth with information retrieval and with the principal intellectual,ethical, and social issues relating to the organization ofand access to information.

9. To collaborate with the teaching facultyin the development and management of the library’s print andelectronic collections, the provision of reference assistance,and support for the instructional mission of the university.

10. To provide physical facilities and anenvironment conducive to individual and group research andstudy.

11. To provide service and equipment thatassists users in efficiently accessing and using informationin all formats provided by the library.

12. To participate in regional, state, andnational networking efforts aimed at bringing information tothose engaged in learning, teaching, and research.

13. To employ, develop, and retain qualifiedstaff who individually and collectively achieve the mission,goals and program objectives of the library.

14. To employ appropriate management techniquesto develop, implement, and evaluate services and programs inthe context of a changing internal and external environment.

15. To work with other departments and individualson campus to shape a technological infrastructure adequateto support the information delivery programs of the library.
