The library offers a variety of media applications and hardware (computers, printers, scanners, photocopiers, and microform reader/printers). In addition, the Olin Room (LIB002), the Classroom (LIB006), and a conference room (LIB203) are equipped with a PC, a videocassette/DVD player, and projection equipment. Basic technical assistance for widely used applications, and the printers, scanners, and photocopiers is provided at the reference desk, and basic technical assistance for the printers, scanners, and photocopiers is provided at the circulation desk. Referrals to the university’s technology Help Desk are made for specialized assistance in applications and hardware.
Media:
More than three dozen applications for word processing, spreadsheets, music and image management, web design, and presentation are available on each of more than fifty PCs distributed in the lab, Learning Commons, and elsewhere in the library.
Printers:
All printers in the library are networked, meaning that printing can be directed to any of the four available printers:
- Olin West Wall Printer (located in the magazines and journals area)
- Olin Research Printer (located in the Learning Commons)
- Olin Microfilm Area Printer (located among the bank of computers in front of the Circulation Desk)
- Olin Lab Printer (located in the computer lab, room LIB 020 on the Lower Level).
All printer trays use 8.5×11 paper. 8.5×14 paper may be requested. Wireless printing is not available on campus.
Scanners:
The library has two scanners for image reproduction. One is located in the computer lab and the other is located in the microform area. It is recommended that you use a portable storage device on which to save scanned images.
Photocopiers:
Two photocopiers, one for black & white copy, and another for either black & white or color copy, are located in recessed alcoves near the Circulation Desk. Black & white copies cost $0.10 (ten cents) each; color copies cost $0.25 (twenty-five cents) each.
Microform reader/printers:
Two microform reader/printers are available in the microfilm area in front of the Circulation Desk.
Miscellaneous equipment:
Headphones and slide projectors may be checked out from the Circulation Desk.
