These terms are often interchanged. A request is placed through the online catalog. You may request a book through the SWAN or MOBIUS catalog. Any request you make places a “hold” on a book so that you are the next person in line who can check out the book. Requests are processed in the sequence in which they are ordered. Requested books are usually received at the Circulation Desk within 3-5 work days, if there are no holds. The period you wait to receive a requested book is based upon how many holds were placed before yours.
Ask at the Reference Desk if you need initial help placing a request.
Requested books received from other schools are held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days. If they are not picked up by you within the 7 days, they are returned to the lending library.
After your first 21-day checkout period, any Drury, SWAN or MOBIUS book may be renewed twice for 21-days each renewal, if there is no hold placed on it at the time of renewal. Call or come by the Circulation Desk, or renew online. If you renew online be sure to verify that your renewal went through. No renewals for Drury books which are excessively overdue. If a SWAN/MOBIUS book is overdue, renewals must go through the lending library.
Renewals with Holds
Borrowers are limited to a 21-day checkout period if a hold is placed on their book. (In other words, no one can renew a book they have if another person has put a hold on it.) If a book is currently checked out to another patron and you request it, you must wait until they return the book before your request is processed. (Unless there are additional copies in the catalog.)
If you urgently need a checked-out Drury book, you can place a recall at the Circulation Desk. A recall can be applied only after the first 21-days. A recall changes the due date on a currently checked-out book, and sends a message to the borrowing patron that they have 5 days to return the recalled book. If there is already a hold on the book you want; a recall may not be a viable option. Ask at the Circulation Desk.
