FedStats

A U.S. government site that "provides access to the full range of official statistical information produced by the Federal Government without having to know in advance which Federal agency produces which particular statistic." It links to more than 100 agencies.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research

Established in 1962, the ICPSR is an organization of member institutions that "maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction." A knowledge of SPSS is needed to make effective use of this social, health, educational, and business data.

Pew Charitable Trusts

Since its beginning in 1948, this is widely respected non-partisan body aims to improve public policy, inform the public, and stimulate civic life with scientifically gathered survey and other data. Includes reports on the environment, human health, policy, media, journalism, education, and elections.

Statistical Abstract of the United States

Comprehensive, authoritative summary statistics on the social, economic, and political organization of the United States. Tables are made available in Excel and PDF.

U.S. Census Bureau
