The 8th annual Morrison Lecture Series will be held October 30, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in Olin Library Lyceum, located in the F.W. Olin Library second floor on the Drury University campus. It will feature podcasters and "accidental" archaeologists Matt and Melissa Dunphy. Admission is free and open to the public.
Matt and Melissa were in the process of restoring an old building in Philadelphia when they discovered two pre-Revolutionary War privies (outhouses in the Ozarkian vernacular) under the foundation of their property. (Privies were used as trash dumps as well as toilets in those days.) Initially out of curiosity, they excavated a few pieces, and soon found out that they were sitting on a significant cache of Colonial-era ceramic pieces and other artifacts. What started out as mere curiosity turned into an obsessive dive into rare artifacts and fascinating history. They have chronicled their journey in a very lively and sometimes irreverent podcast, The Boghouse.
