F. W. Olin Library Gift Policy

The F. W. Olin Library welcomes donations and in-kind gifts that enhance the strength of our collections and support the teaching, learning and research of Drury University.  The library will review gifts of books or other materials (in-kind gifts) prior to acceptance and reserves the right to decline items that do not meet collection needs or which the library cannot steward appropriately.  The determination of suitability is guided by our collection development policy and ultimately rests with the director.

While in-kind gifts to the library may be tax deductible, F. W. Olin Library cannot provide appraisals of gift items.  An acknowledgement letter will be sent to the donor(s) for unappraised in-kind gifts that are under consideration for addition to the collection.  Items accepted for the collection will be affixed with a nameplate honoring the donor(s).

F. W. Olin Library accepts unappraised in-kind gifts on condition that the library may sell, recycle, or discard those items that cannot be added to the collection.  Money received from the sale of donated materials is retained by the library to supplement collection needs.  Generally, outdated textbooks, superseded editions, duplicate copies, items in poor condition, and periodical back issues are not accepted for the collection.

Unrestricted donations of money are gratefully accepted to be used at the library’s discretion to address our most pressing needs.  Restricted donations may be dedicated to specific purposes designated by the donor and guided by the F. W. Olin Library mission in consultation with the library director.  A monetary gift may be made for one-time purchases or as an endowment.   Endowments are appreciated to fund ongoing library needs such as journal and database subscriptions.

To make a donation to the F. W. Olin Library, please contact Polly Boruff-Jones, Director of Library & Information Services, at pboruffjones@drury.edu or 417-873-7282 or contact Myrna Berry at mberry@drury.edu or 417-873-7425.
